Insurance Product and Performance Manager
Help us make renting easier, faster and fairer for everyone.
About Zero Deposit
Renting a home is stressful and expensive, and the security deposit is one of the biggest pain points. Tenants can pay thousands up front, often before their previous deposit comes back.
We give them another option: instead of a cash deposit, they buy our Guarantee for a low fee, while landlords get more protection than a traditional deposit. Everyone wins.
We're an InsurTech business on a mission to make renting easier, faster and fairer — and we do that by building a great product and hiring an exceptional team. We're growing fast. Our new product, Guarantor+, is already performing well and we have ambitions to build more. Come and join us.
About the Role
The Insurance Product & Portfolio Manager will own the portfolio performance monitoring, pricing strategy, underwriting alignment and governance of the Guarantor+ product. The role ensures the product stays aligned with plan — understanding key problems and opportunities, and working across the business to act on them.
About You
What we're looking for
We're building an insurance business, and this role needs someone who's lived and breathed insurance. We're looking for candidates with solid experience in the insurance industry — whether that's in a commercial role, tracking a P&L, underwriting, or performance analysis.
You'll be technically comfortable across loss ratios, pricing, underwriting analysis, and portfolio performance. Strong communication is essential: you'll be translating complex data into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders, so the ability to make the numbers mean something to a room is as important.
Nice to haves
Experience working closely with underwriters
Exposure to pricing tools or actuarial analysis
Familiarity with the regulatory environment — Consumer Duty, fair value, FCA expectations
Experience in a product or performance focused role within insurance
Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders and holding your own in those conversations
Experience working in a fast-moving, agile team where priorities shift and you have to adapt
Key Responsibilities
Portfolio performance monitoring
Actively monitor product portfolio performance across different customer segments and cohorts to ensure the risk profile remains aligned with expectations
Analyse loss ratio by cohort and customer segment, and monitor portfolio composition and mix over time
Monitor claims frequency, severity and development curves to understand and anticipate future performance
Identify underperforming segments and recommend portfolio adjustments, communicating insights clearly to the wider business
Use portfolio insight to directly inform pricing and product design decisions
Monitor overall product performance across both insurance and digital metrics, including conversion funnels and customer outcomes, to identify improvement opportunities
Provide insurance performance and portfolio risk insight into the product meetings
Pricing strategy
Maintain and develop the product pricing strategy, ensuring the product remains competitive while delivering sustainable performance
Monitor competitor pricing and market benchmarks to assess ongoing competitiveness
Analyse rating factor performance and risk segmentation, evaluating and proposing new pricing factors where relevant
Review pricing changes with underwriters and assess their commercial impact before implementation
Underwriting
Maintain a strong, ongoing working relationship with the underwriting partner, including regular reviews of product performance and strategy
Work closely with underwriting partners to ensure product design, pricing and eligibility rules align with the agreed risk appetite
Share portfolio insights and forecasts with underwriters and align underwriting expectations with the product roadmap
Discuss and incorporate underwriting feedback and rule or eligibility changes into product development
Product Oversight
Run regular product governance forums (e.g. a weekly product committee), maintaining decision logs and action tracking
Work with compliance to ensure the product remains fair value to customers and is in line with Consumer Duty standards
Maintain a product risk register, monitor emerging operational and commercial risks, and coordinate mitigation actions, ensuring issues are raised early
Define what product data should be tracked and use analytics to understand performance and guide future improvements
Maintain clear product documentation, including specifications, wording and internal guidance so teams across the business understand how the product works
